2024 Paris Olympics: Saverio Calia among Italian innovators
Ph by Pietro Savorelli
We are happy to announce that Calia Italia has been included in the project for Casa Italia – the iconic residence that is hosting Italy’s athletes and their teams during the 2024 Paris Olympics. The marvellous 19th century villa of Le Pré Catelan, located in the heart of the Bois de Boulogne, and set up for the occasion by the most important leading artists and designers on the contemporary Italian scene, is in fact a tribute to the creativity of the peninsula in various forms.
One is the large tapestry “Panorama Italia”, created by Giovanni Bonotto and commissioned by the Italian National Olympic Committee for the Celebration Room, a space designed to celebrate the victories of the Italian athletes. With its impressive size, the piece is a tribute to the importance of Italian history and entrepreneurship and highlights a specific quality for each region that contributes to generating the value and recognisability of Made in Italy products worldwide.
The manufacturing expertise of Basilicata is represented by a sofa, the symbol of an industry which has ancient roots in this territory and is constantly projected towards the future. Within this spirit, the tapestry also features architect Saverio Calia, General Director of Marketing Development at Calia Italia, the historical company from Basilicata operating in the field of upholstered furniture since 1965, among the most innovative exponents of Italian entrepreneurship in an eminent selection made by Carlo Bagnoli, professor of Innovation Strategy at Venice’s Ca’ Foscari University, which is embroidered on the right side of the piece. This project comes as a new and highly prestigious testimony of the value of this company and the vision that guides it, which combines design creativity, a calling for research, manufacturing inventiveness, and care for the local territory with a strong respect for all things human.
