Kalsarïkannit: The Finnish Comfort Experience
Wanna go out? No thanks! I prefer a sofa, a movie and a glass of wine – or in other words: ‘Kalsarïkannit’, the name of a trend that has been popular in Finland for a while now. Indeed now that winter has started and the current situation calls for spending as much time as possible indoors, ‘Kalsarïkannit’ seems like the perfect way to spend our holidays.
In fact, the exact definition of ‘Kalsarïkannit’ is this: ‘Having a drink at home, alone, in your pyjamas or underwear, with no intention of going out’. This is a way of internalising the moment we are living in and saying goodbye to the clubs in the city centre and the chaos in the streets, without hesitation and with the right spirit.
Spontaneously and long before it was necessary, The Finnish chose the atmosphere of home and the comfort of their sofas whilst in the company of a good film and a glass of excellent wine. Or, for those who prefer it, the book they never had time to read with perhaps relaxing background music.
The home and the sofa can become ideal refuges of peace and rest, better than any other location, where you can experiment again and again with the art of not going out. And why not do that whilst wearing comfortable pyjamas!?
In northern Europe they have already started, so here are a few simple rules to do the same:
1. Switch off your computer and mobile phone
2. Relax with a warm bath
3. Wear comfortable clothing
4. Stock up on your favourite beverage
5. Surrender to the comfort experience of your sofa
The watchword unquestionably remains ‘relaxation’, or that feeling of well-being of body and spirit that a Calia Italia sofa is capable of transforming into something much more intense and personal – a comfort experience.
Whatever our reason for staying at home, a Calia Italia sofa is definitely the right companion for our ‘Kalsarïkannit’.
